I'm curious about the personality types that are empathic by nature. For myself, I've taken the Myer-Brigg personality test several times. My results vary between INTJ and ISTJ. I have a feeling that empaths tend to be introverted sensing people. Why not take the test and see what kind of personality type you are. Check out this free website and post your results.

  • I'm an ENFP.

    INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS
With their preference for Feeling, ENFPs are warm, empathic, caring individuals. Directing their attention to the Extraverted world of people and external events, they have a great interest in those around them, and are sensitive to their colleagues' feelings and personal needs. Thus, others will be quick to warm to them, greatly appreciating their infectious enthusiasm and zest for life. Averse to discord and disagreement, they will try to accommodate others¹ needs when possible. Flexible and free-thinking, they are open to others' points of view, which they will evaluate with sensitivity and tact. Empathic, co-operative and having a genuine concern for others¹ welfare, they will be popular team members. Initiating projects with great energy and enthusiasm, they will be keen to work for the common good. Expressing their views with great conviction, they plunge into things enthusiastically and enjoy creating novel solutions to problems as they arise.
  • INFJ...and pretty strongly preferenced to it. I know some people come out as different things as they take the tests several times, but I always get the same.

sometimes people's results change as they change thru life and learn and grow :) I know many that fluxuate...bu† some of them might have a test taking issue that lends probabilities for different results?
      • Interesting point of veiw. When I was taking a psych class ages ago, the professor was saying that we all sort of begin life with personalities that may express itself at varies extremes. As we grow older and experience more things, we tend to see that things aren't always black and white. We tend to see all the "gray" in between. As we tend to see all the "gray areas" our personalities tend to move away from the extremities that our personalities resided in. People that once were introvert become become more sociable. People that were once coldly cerebral become warmer more in touch with their feelings. My professor called this movement towards the center of the extremities as becoming more mature and adult like in nature.
  • It's true that people definitely develop their weaker characteristics as they grow...but as I've read, the instructions for the test say that the answers should be what you're "naturally inclined" toward. So, even though I'm a lot more sociable than I used to be, and even if I get a lot more flexible than I am now, I should still come out as an INFJ, not an ENFP. Your self-taught traits are not part of the test; this is just developing a more even/functional version of yourself. Plus, the order of function preference is completely different for the different types. We always revert to our initial and best-developed functions when the others don't work. So if trying to use my Se doesn't work (it usually doesn't!) then I backtrack to Ti, Fe, and especially to Ni with which I am most practiced and comfortable. Some people don't agree with the preference ratings though, but it seems to make sense to me.
  • Extroverted (E) 70.59% Introverted (I) 29.41%

i think there are many things to consider when people get different test results... the first being the time that exists in between taking the tests, age difference, and how close the percentages were to begin with.... for example say a person takes the myers-brigg test when they are 20 yrs old & take it again when they turn 30 yrs old, and the orginal scores for the test were extroverted 43% & intoverted 57% and when that person takes the test again 10 yrs later the score extroverted 53% & introverted 47%... it's not too impossible to imagine. when someone is 20yrs old they are still very much influenced by their parents and at 30 yrs old they have developed as a fully independant adult, they have had many different kinds of experiences, and they scored on the border of introvert/extrovert to begin with.

human behavior/personality development and evolution is something that is difficult to gauge for theyre are so many variables... now on the other hand i would think one would not deviate into a completely different personality type, but if it is close, time has lapsed, and there is a bit of time gap it is not a surprising occurence.

nope, I take that back... I just did the test again, and I'm ISFP... I guess you can change over time. Last time I took this test was a while ago, so the INFJ was a couple years ago. neat.

I'm one of those who changes every time I take the test. I'm not being flaky - just that I often question how something is worded or how I'm supposed to answer something that I would need more details on or that I could perceive in a couple of different ways.

Most of the time, I'm some sort of INF_. On the rare occasion, I'm an ENF_ and sometimes I get a T in place of the F.

I must not have taken the right test, it broke me down differently
Stability results were very high which suggests you are extremely relaxed, calm, secure, and optimistic.

Orderliness results were medium which suggests you are moderately organized, hard working, and reliable while still remaining flexible, efficient, and fun.

Extraversion results were high which suggests you are overly talkative, outgoing, sociable and interacting at the expense too often of developing your own individual interests and internally based identity.

          trait snapshot:
social, outgoing, worry free, optimistic, upbeat, tough, likes large parties, makes friends easily, rarely irritated, open, enjoys leadership, trusting, dominant, thrill seeker, strong, does not like to be alone, assertive, mind over heart, confident, controlling, feels desirable, likes the spotlight, loves food, social chameleon, hard working, concerned about others
