    Hi Kyla,

I'm into and out of Raw Eating. There is a good portion of my diet that is always Raw but I'm not 100% yet, more like transitioning gradually. I will tell you this with certainty, when I am in a phase where I'm eating mostly Raw, Living food, I am much more attuned and that can be both peaceful and frightening for me. I feel lighter and so does my mind. . but it's already light enough. Sometimes I feel like I need cooked food to ground me back to reality a bit. (still afraid to float that high)

I just began a batch of Rejuvelac today - any ideas on what to do with the left over Barley Sprouts? Don't have a dehydrator yet : ( Do you know if you can rinse and eat Sprouts that were used to ferment liquid? I'd like to just throw them in a salad but I'm not sure that's biologically ok for me.

    Nice to meet you Kyla!

    Peace

    Katrina

Oh, yes, eating a large percentage of raw DOES open up sensitivity on the refined levels. The danger sometimes
is that one can lose one's sense of grounding in the process. And the fact that we do need to have at least a foot
in the material world to be able to balance out! The addition of some denser raw food items can help in this regard -
like sprouted grain and bean things, and a bit of raw fats(not too much though)like avocado, raw nuts and seeds.
A dehydrator-made Essene-type of flatbread is great for this - sprout up some wheat or other grains, blend in food
processor, and add some chopped medjool dates and grated orange peel to this mixture, and dehydrate until like a
chewy cookie. Eat as is, or topped with a little raw almond butter for a great treat that won't hurt you. While most people
would surely benefit from eating alot more raw produce up to a very high percentage of total food intake, it also depends
on one's makeup, level of physical activity, age, and life situation as to how to make it work. Don't worry about being
"100% raw" right now - it sound's like you are already accessing other planes and need a bit of balancing.
There are lots of raw food recipes on the web of all sorts, from extremely simple and light, up to fairly substantial foods.
      Best in health!

        Thanks Cara!

I'm glad you hear what I am saying about the grounding aspect of certain foods. Also, I feel WAY drained when I eat all raw because I run and I teach Yoga. The foods aren't enough to sustain me calorically and I don't like always feeling hungry. Also, I think like you said, it takes time to work out a Raw diet that's suitable for your specific body.

        Thanks again for your thoughts!

it's great to hear that there are others who are experiencing the effects of eating raw and being empathic...

i've noticed over the past year that i've been 100% raw that it seems to be escalating my empathic abilities at a super fast rate... sometimes it feels like it's more than i can handle...
i do ground myself with fats but have to watch them as i can get out of balance easily and get the brain fog... (not the extreme i'm looking for!)

those cookies sound tasty, i'll have to try making them!

          thanks,

          k :)

I'm into raw meat - very low carb, paleo eating.

Most of my calories coming from meat and animal fat.

Raw beef is the best! Japanese style!

Ah, yes, the activity level REALLY has something to do with this too! Not surprised here. Since I am physically active myself(gym work for resistance training, walking, and elliptical trainer at said gym for cardio)I know for a fact that I could not go very far at all on JUST raw fruits and veggies, as much as I might like the idea of it in my mind. So, yes, the inclusion of some denser, but still high-quality nutritionally foods is essential to feeling good, strong, and energetic enough to continue with one's activities. Not to mention the very real inner work of repair and regeneration that the body needs to do from said physical activity. I hang out over on a fitness and health board, and one of the biggest mistakes that people make, even those nowhere near a raw diet, but still concerned about food quality, is not eating enough to support one's workouts, even if one is ostensibly trying to lose weight. Even with wanting to lose weight, one STILL needs fuel for those workouts, whatever form they take. Some raw-aspirational folks have had to realize that for them "100% raw" might not be realistic for their life, and even for the ones who DO go 100% for the long term(very few, BTW)it takes time to implement this. It is a HUGE shift on so many levels, coming as most of us do from a traditional cooked-food orientation. In these times, it's less the actual cooking of the food that's the problem, it is what and how it is cooked! Huge difference between a fast-food fat-burger, and a bowl of lightly steamed broccoli prepared at home! Both are "cooked" but one is far superior nutritionally than the other - it's a no-brainer as to which one:)
With all this in mind, eat up, with some good foods! Holidays are here anyway;)

            hey cara,

            thanks for your thoughts...

before going raw i was actually the director of the group fitness programs at a gym, taught classes and was training 2x a day to compete in figure bodybuilding... i got sick - went to a medical institute called sanoviv down on the baja coast - had to cancel both of my gym memberships and stop working out all together to work towards getting well... that was almost 2 years ago now... i just got a new gym membership YESTERDAY! yay! (i'm one of those rare people who LOVES the gym) so it will be interesting to see how i do 100% raw and getting back into training.

there are a number of raw vegan bodybuilders, marathon runners and various high calibre athletes. Dr. Doug Graham trains raw athletes (www.foodnsport.com) and from my research, it just take a solid understanding of the quality and quantity of the raw food you intake.

people don't realize that being raw and active can mean 12 bananas in one sitting... eating this clean and 'live' = more more more in order to get the same # of calories... it's easy with dense foods like rice or oats etc.

i'll keep you posted on how the transition goes!

i'm also interested to see how i do with the 'gym energy' now that my empathic abilities have been even more heightened going raw...

            k :)

              Hi Kyla!
Wow - it sounds like you did indeed have to step back and get your health back on track - you had a lot on your plate, so to speak. Like you, I love the gym too. Yes, I'm familiar with Dr. Graham's approach, and the fact that there are many raw vegan athletes. Another great website is www.thegardendiet.com with an all-raw family, consisting of Storm and Jinjee Talifero and their several children, who have been raised 100% raw. Storm has been raw for 30+ years, and has bodybuilding in his background, and he found ways to eat raw that supported him in that activity(again, some higher-density, but still raw foods). Again, it's finding the type of raw that works for you. By denser foods, I didn't necessarily mean just going back to eating cooked grains, etc. if one doesn't wish to. Eating enough good food is key though, as you mention with the example of the 12 bananas. I know for a fruit meal I have to eat several pieces of fruit for it to be satisfying, and include a bit of denseness along with that in the form of some hemp protein powder(in smoothie) or some raw almonds or something. Same with a veggie meal - have to have a little bit of density with that too. I do know for a fact though that my system would just fall apart big-time without a large portion of my diet being raw fruits and veggies, since I'm not 100% raw at this time.
Again, good luck with being back in the gym, and happy eating of plenty of great, clean foods!
